Mark A. Young - Music & Worship Pastor
It is a delight to be here at Mt Pleasant Church! I have been a part of music ministry in a local church since I was 4 years old, singing in choir and playing the trumpet. The reason for my early start is that my Father is a Music Minister as well. I learned a great deal from him about church music. God called me into the ministry at the age of 12.
However, after a year and a half of studying Church Music at Stetson University, I decided to join the Marines. I took a “detour” from what God called me to do. After a year of infantry training and serving in the U.S. Marine Presidential Honor Guard, I was accepted into the U.S. Marine Drum & Bugle Corps in Washington, DC where I served 6 years as a “Bugle Boy”.
In 1995, I finally followed God’s calling by getting out of the Marines and going to Washington Bible College where I received my Associate’s Degree in Biblical Studies and Music. I began serving God through church music ministry in 1997.
I continued studying through Liberty University where I received a Bachelor of Science (Music & Religion Studies). I am currently pursuing a Master of Religion (Worship Concentration) through Liberty Theological Seminary, and have been granted a specialized ministry license through the United Brethren Church.
I am excited about the music ministry here at Mt. Pleasant Church! There are so many talented musicians and vocalists who are willing to serve and worship God with all of their heart. The Lord has blessed me with a wonderful wife (Kimberly) and two wonderful boys (Bryan and Christopher). Kim is a Registered Nurse. She graduated from University of Maryland with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and served 5 years as an Army Nurse where she specialized in Women’s Health (Labor & Delivery and OB/GYN). She works with Pregnancy Ministries Incorporated in Chambersburg, PA - heading up the Ultrasound department. I praise the Lord that she is able to help women see and hear the heartbeat of their newly conceived baby. She is highly involved with the music ministry of the church. Kim has a beautiful voice and sings with the Worship Team and with a Contemporary Christian band called “Undiscovered”. She also helps with the scenery and costumes for the musicals. There is also so much she does behind the scenes - filing and organizing music for me. She loves the Lord and is extremely committed to me and the music ministry here at Mt Pleasant. She truly is a blessing from God!
Bryan is also very musically talented. He loves to play his guitar, sing, and write Christian songs. Most of all he loves the Lord and is not bashful about sharing his faith with anyone. He carries his Bible with him to school everyday along with his devotional book. He is a member of the Youth Choir, Youth Praise Team and Senior Bible Quiz Team. I am very proud of Him! He is a student at Chambersburg High School, studying Electrical Occupations at the Franklin County Career & Technical Center.
Our youngest son, Christopher, is a bundle of joy! He also loves the Lord and loves to sing. He sings in the Hosanna Kids Choir and is on the Junior Bible Quiz Team. He has been selected to be in the gifted program at Fayetteville Elementary School. He is incredibly smart and also makes me very proud!
